Book #2:  The Little Prince

Book #3:  Conversations with God
Author:  3 books-N D Walsh

Comments:  I must say that I have read about 70 percent of the books in your survey and feel that each in its own way enhanced my life. To pick out three for me is next to impossible so I put down Lord of the Rings because at a young age it intrduced me to honor, The Little Prince for its truth and any book that leads one to faith in ones self must also be included.

Book #1:  Duncton Wood
Author:  William Horwood

Book #2:  Riddlemaster of Hed (series of 3 books)
Author:  Patricia McKillip

Book #3:  Dancing the Dream
Author:  Jamie Sams

Comments:  Duncton Wood is an epic of Life--using moles as the characters. It is THE most wonderful book. If you liked Watership Down, this is much better. It draws upon Celtic, Christian, and Shamanic Healing backgrounds. It is light writing with profound insights. You will never look at life the same way again. The last page is so bittersweet;you want this book never to end. The Riddlemaster series is an intriguing series, where life and fate are pondered in a series of Riddles. The main character Morgan teaches us that one must live life in one's own terms and that running away from problems does in fact sometimes brings us closer to the problems instead. The book is full of strong characters of both sexes and if you are a strongly visual person as you read, you will never, ever forget the SHOUT the starts a pig stampede. Dancing the Dream is a MUST for any spiritual path. The author gives us the 7 levels of spiritual growth and what to watch out for as you succeed the levels. This book uses humor as well as seriousness to get the point across. It is really helpful to see what you should do or beware of because when it comes to looking within for answers, sometimes you can't see the forest from the trees and can get caught up in the very things that are keeping you from growing. This little gem can be used by Christians or Pagans and is very respectful of one's spiritual path--hers is Native American with a hints of other influences;hence all paths are welcome here. Give it a try. Trust me, after this book, you'll have a much better idea who you are, your purpose in this life, and just how important your work and loving is to everything. I will warn you, it can make you squirm when she gets to the shortcomings you thought you had overcome, only to see a variation that(oops!) you still have to work on. This book is applicable to any stage of life;you may find yourself using it over and over through dilemma's of your own or when a friend needs help/guidance. Especially during the spiritual crisis that is known as "The Dark Night Of The Soul"--oh,it sure does help in these times. Enjoy all three of these gems-warning! they do change the way you think of life/love/self. And they are fun reads! Can it get any better than that? :-)

Book #1:  The Holy Bible
Author:  God

Book #2:  IT
Author:  Stephen King

Book #3:  What to Expect The First Year
Author:

Comments:  All three books frightened and inspired me in different ways! The bible: Chosing a Christian path can sometimes be frightening and difficult. However, the power of prayer and faith overcomes my fear and in the end, my belief in GOD brings me inner piece and sirenity. IT: Aside from the typical horror, "IT" forces each of its characters to face what they fear the most by transforing "itself" into the characters greatest fear. However, each character "wins" the battle by believing in himself and facing their fears. What to Expect the First Year: Having Children is scary but absolutely the most increble experience I have ever had. As a Mom, I have to "choose my battles" with my 1 and 2 year old and know when to "give in" and when to "stand my ground". This book is a great guide.

Book #3:  Proust
Author:  Samuel Beckett

Comments:  Literature is nothing if it doesn't change you. Words reaching out into space and time and transfiguring your universe transfigure reality. To read a good, complex, ecstatic book is to practise alchemy on the fabric of being, to see the inessentiality of hate and love and death and war; and Christ knows we need to attain to a realisation like that, and quickly, before we end up a cinder in space. These three books are a wonderful shock to the perspective.

Comments:  To name only three books was indeed a task! I would add/suggest many others that have moved me such as: You'll See It When You Believe It and others by Wayne Dyer; Living, Loving and Learning and Loving Each Other by Leo Buscaglia; The Little Prince; Jonathan Livingston Seagull and Illusions by Richard Bach; Dale Carnegie's Scrapbook; several titles by Sigurd Olson, H.D. Thoreau, Aldo Leopold, John Muir, Deepak Chopra and Wm. Bennett (The Book of Virtues, Our Sacred Honor* and others); also various writings by Benj. Franklin, T. Jefferson, G. Washington, Abigail (and John) Adams (and other founders i.e., Hamilton, Madison, Sam Adams, etc.), A. Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Helen Keller, and going further back - Aristotle, Cicero, Confucius, Muhammad and many others. I found many great titles (in the lists of others) that I plan to explore. Thank you for providing us with a place to share titles/writings that have touched, moved, shaped and inspired us as human beings. Peace, Love, Health and Happiness to all. And remember it all comes from within. . .

The Giver is a favorite as it makes me laugh, cry, and view the world differently. All Quiet made me think about the falsehoods of war and the young boys dying in it.All great "empowering" books. Comments:  These are three practical guides to a spiritual life. They are simple and staightforward, low on theory and high on practice. At another time, I'd probably nominate a different three, there is so much rich food for us from many different sources. But, like the person below, I affirm that the most empowering thing of all is to put the advice of the teachers into practice in our own lives. Every day in every breath.
